Netflix Raises Prices By $1

Netflix

If you haven’t yet subscribed to Netflix, it will now cost you $1 more than everybody else.

In an email to subscribers Friday morning, the Internet video service revealed that it will start charging new members $8.99 a month to use the popular site instead of the initial $7.99.

The change in price was made “in order to continue adding more movies and TV shows,” the statement read.

Anyone who subscribed to Netflix before Friday’s move will continue to pay the monthly rate of $7.99 for two years. After that, it is expected that everyone will pay the extra dollar.

As far as the prices for Netflix DVD subscribers, those are not changing mainly because of the decrease in popularity.

This is the first time in almost three years that the company raises its prices.

The price hike was expected since Reed Hasting, Netflix CEO, announced last month that subscription prices would go up within the next few months.
